The reason RunSignup came into being is the Moorestown Rotary Run. Two of my friends, Scott Coffee and Bill Van Fossen started the race over 35 years ago as a fundraiser for the Rotary.  Sadly, Scott passed away in 2006. I volunteered to help Bill with the race, and saw the poor state of technology and business practices from online registration providers.
